Valentine’s Day is next week.
You might be fed up of being harassed, assaulted and bombarded by advertisements to make sure you buy the perfect present to give to your special someone…By the way, I told my hubby I am not against receiving a Tesla with a big red ribbon…Remember, if you don’t ask, you don’t get!
Joke apart, I find this celebration complete nonsense! No need to buy anything!
Instead, why not be BOLD, be DIFFERENT, be DARING…why not give them a speech!
A speech gives the person you love the experience of a life time, a truly special and romantic gesture to be remembered and will be embedded in your memories forever.
It could be daunting, however, the movie industry is making it easy for all of us. Here is a selection to inspire you in your quest for the truly unique expression of love on Valentine’s Day:
Use props and say nothing.
Reference to the movie “Love Actually” – the words are written on boards Andrew Lincoln flips to declare his love to Keira Knightley. Not a word is spoken.
Reference to the movie “Notting Hill” - simple declaration from a girl (Julia Roberts) to a boy (Hugh Grant) - watch from 01:32.
Use a poetic, metaphoric way to express your love.
Reference to the movie “Meet Joe Black” with Brad Pitt and Claire Forlani.
“Take love multiply it by infinity, and take it to the depth of forever and you still have only a glimpse of how I feel for you.”
Be flamboyant and make a public declaration.
Reference to the movie “Mama Mia” – Pierce Brosnan going down on his knee, singing ABBA, in the church full of guests to propose to Meryl Streep.
CHICK FLICK references apart, they all have a couple of things in common:
- They are not about the speaker, but about the loved one.
- They come from the heart. It is all about emotions, feelings, stories, and anecdotes.
- They engaged the speaker on sincerity, actively opening up and being vulnerable.
Even a love declaration complies to the rules of speech craft.
What will you be on Valentine’s Day?
Will you be BOLD? Will you be DIFFERENT? Or will you be DARING?
Good luck and Happy Valentine’s to all!
