SIMPLE - The first of the six principles that make your message stick

Updated: May 31, 2022

To make your message memorable you need to apply the acronyms of SUCCES: the be Simple – Unexpected – Concrete – Credible – Emotional and use Stories.

Today we look at the first S - Simple

1. SIMPLE

When we communicate with others there is a rule of thumb, we all need to apply

LESS is MORE.

So how can we make our message, presentation, ideas, or project simpler?

Step 1 – AUDIENCE FIRST

Think about who is your audience, and why they should care about your ideas in the first place. Meet people where they are – do not assume they know as much as you.

Step 2 – NO JARGON

Speak a language your listener will understand perfectly

Step 3 – GET TO THE POINT

Think about the main substance of what you need to convey and get rid of the details

Tell people 10 things -> they remember none

Step 4 – TEST

Nothing wrong with testing your speech with an audience before the big day!

For my TedX talk last year, I presented my speech to 8 different audiences, and every time the feedback received enabled me to make the speech sharper and better.

Next week will be about being Unexpected! because surprise gets attention.

....communication is everything!
